Dear Colleagues and Friends,

It is with great excitement and enthusiasm that I open my Message as the elected President of the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation. I am delighted to be able to administer the functions of a federation that emulates high virtues and values. I assure you all that we will continue to carry out our objectives with transparency and honesty as these universal qualities provide the foundation with which to build a profession and the missions of sports administration. At IABF our aim is to constantly strive to ensure that Indian boxers keep winning laurels and accolades for the country at the global level of the sport. We also intend to assume a greater role in strengthening the domestic level of the sport in the country, both in men’s and women’s discipline.

I would also like to applaud the performance of MC Mary Kom at the 2012 London Olympics, where she became the first Indian woman boxer and the third Indian woman athlete to win an Olympic Medal. She has been the cynosure of Women’s Boxing for long, winning the World Championship title a record five times.

Post the 2012 London Olympics there is a lot for boxing aficionados to look forward to as we being the ground work of our preparations for mega tournaments that follow. The third season of World Series Boxing is all set to being in November 2012, AIBA Pro Boxing is getting ready to kick off in 2013 and with women’s boxing making its Commonwealth debut in 2014 there is lot that would keep our boxers busy in the future.

I also extend my sincere thanks to our erstwhile President Shir Abhay Singh Chautala and Secretary General Brig PK Muralidharan Raja who have been exceptional administrators for the sport of boxing in the country and their efforts have facilitated the growth of Indian Boxing. I would also like to thank the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India and our sponsors the Monnet Group and the Sahara India Pariwar for their continued support.

My personal good wishes go to the newly elected Executive Members to keep on doing the good work done so far.

Abhishek Matoria, MLA, Rajasthan,
