In the Heavy weight section Samota took on Vitalijus Subacius of Lithuania. The Indian boxer was slow of the blocks and the Lithuania boxer took advantage, gaining a two point lead after the opening round. Samota a bronze medallist at last year's Asian Games, came back strongly in the second to make it a one point game at 7:8. In the final round though, the 23 year old lost crucial points and with it the bout. He lost 12:14 on points.
